A Guide to Botox Dosing & What to Expect

November 6, 2025

At MedAesthetics by AM, I take a personalized, medically guided approach to every aesthetic treatment. No two faces — or muscles — are the same, and that’s exactly why your dosing should never be “one size fits all.”

My goal is always natural-looking, confidence-boosting results that enhance your features without changing who you are. Botox is one of the most trusted and effective treatments for softening dynamic wrinkles and creating a refreshed, youthful appearance — but the right dosage matters.

This guide breaks down typical wrinkle relaxer dosing, what you can expect, and how we customize your treatment to fit your anatomy and goals.

How Botox Works

Botox (Botulinum Toxin Type A) temporarily relaxes targeted muscles by blocking nerve signals. This prevents repeated contraction — the movement that forms lines over time.

What you can expect:

  • Results begin: 3–7 days

  • Full effect: around 2 weeks

  • Duration: typically 3–4 months

  • Outcome: smoother skin, softer expressions, natural refresh

Think of it as softening the lines caused by frowning, lifting your brows, smiling, or squinting — without freezing your personality.

Recommended Botox Dosing by Area

Actual dosing is always customized during your consultation based on muscle strength, skin condition, movement patterns, and your aesthetic goals.
However, here are the most common starting points:

1. Forehead (Frontalis) — ~20 Units

The forehead is extremely expressive, so dosing must be balanced to keep your brows lifted and natural.

Typical starting dose: ~20 units
(Adjusted depending on wrinkle depth and muscle strength.)

2. Frown Lines (Glabella / “11s”) — ~20 Units

These vertical lines between the brows form from frowning or concentrating.

Treating them prevents worsening over time and creates a smoother, more relaxed appearance.

Typical starting dose: ~20 units

3. Crow’s Feet — ~12 Units Per Side

These fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes come from smiling and squinting.

Botox softens the lines while keeping your smile natural and expressive.

Typical starting dose: ~12 units per side
(Varies depending on your anatomy + how strong your smile muscles are.)

Fully Customized, Medically Guided Dosing

During your appointment, I assess:

  • your facial anatomy

  • muscle strength and direction of pull

  • how your skin moves at rest and with expression

  • your past treatment history

  • the degree of correction you're wanting

  • subtle asymmetries that need balancing

Everyone’s muscles behave differently — which is why personalized dosing is essential for natural, beautiful results.

No over-frozen looks.
No heavy brows.
Just refreshed, elevated, natural movement.
